The Spiral Jetty
The Spiral Jetty is an earthwork sculpture constructed in April 1970 by artist Robert Smithson. The work is located on the northeastern shore of the Great Salt Lake near Rozel Point in Utah. It consists of a 1,500-foot-long (460 m), 15-foot-wide (4.6 m), 6-foot-deep (1.8 m) spiral made of black basalt rock and earth.
The sculpture was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005 and is a great site to see.
The Golden Spike National Historical Park commemorates the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the United States. The railroad was completed on May 10, 1869, when the "golden spike" was driven into the final tie at Promontory Summit, Utah.
The park includes a visitors center and a museum (Junior Ranger Badge!). The museum has exhibits about the construction of the railroad and the cultures it crossed as well as short movies in the center's theater. There is also a restored Union Pacific locomotive and a reconstruction of the original Golden Spike ceremony site.
Visitors can also experience two brief auto tours, a 1.5 mile loop hike trail and a look into the engine house. The site also hosts a number of special events in the Summer, be sure to check their calendar when planning your visit!
Crystal Hot Springs are located just 15 minuets north of the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. The hot springs are a secluded, family-owned and operated hot springs resort in Honeyville, Utah. The resort features 10 hot springs pools of varying temperatures, as well as a children's pool and two waterslides. We found the facility to be clean, spacious and very enjoyable. We will definitely visit again.
The Brigham City Museum of Art and History is a museum that contains art, historical artifacts, and geological specimens from the Brigham area. This small community museum is a great learning opportunity, and is free to enter.
The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is a great place to see a variety of birds, including bald eagles, herons, and egrets. The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge was established in 1928 as a sanctuary for migratory birds. The refuge consists of over 80,000 acres and is home to more than 250 species of birds, making it one of the most diverse bird habitats in North America. Visitors can embark on a 12 mile self guided auto-tour through the heart of the refuge year round. The refuge also offers a fully accessible mile long walking trail and a .70 mile gravel trail. Other available activities include, bird watching, fishing, waterfowl and pheasant hunting, earning a junior ranger badge, biking, picnicking and so forth,
At the Fine Arts Museum in Brigham, Utah
The Museum Puppetry is one that is often overlooked, but it is home to the largest collection of puppets in the Utah, as well as a variety of other interesting exhibits. The museum is open on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from 2:00-5:00. Admission is free for all. Visitors can look forward to a Punch and Judy puppet show, hands on exhibits, demonstrations, crafts and other Puppet Storytime's.
The Brigham City pool is a popular summer attraction. The outdoor pool has 2 diving boards, a 150ft water slide, toddler slides, and a play structure. There is also a concession stand that sells hot dogs, pizza, candy, ice cream, drinks etc.
