Disneyland Prime Time

Where Dreams Come True

Anyone that has ever been to Disneyland knows that it can be an incredibly fun and magical place, but it can also be very crowded and expensive. So when is the best time to go? According to a recent study by WalletHub, the answer is in the Fall.

According to their data, September offers the best value for money, with October ranking as the second-best month. The study looked at several factors including cost, crowds, weather, and attractions.

We have visited Disneyland frequently in the Fall and can definitely attest to the validity in WalletHub's statement. However, with one caveat... the closer it gets to Halloween... the busier it gets! Early October will see less crowds than late October. We should also mention... Oogie Boogie Bash (AKA Mickey's not so Scary Halloween Party) will begin to alter its regular operating hours so check Disney's calendar!

We have found another good time to visit Disneyland is from the second week in January until early May, except for Spring Break (approximately Mid-March to Mid-April). We have found that these times offer lower costs and smaller crowds while still providing nice weather. Although there is a chance of some short-lived California rain.

For vacationers who are looking to avoid the hustle and bustle of high season, going in the offseason has major benefits. However, there are some minor drawbacks, like adjusted hours and fewer nighttime shows/performances. If this is a concern for you, I advise planning at least one day on the weekend to take advantage of the extended hours and additional performances.

When choosing a date, consider using these reliable resources in order to make an informed decision.

1. Compare hotel prices for different weeks to find the best deal. The hotels near Disneyland know how busy it is going to be and their prices reflect that. The less expensive weeks will be during the less busy times.

2. Use the Disneyland app to find out what the price of a single day ticket will be. The price varies during different times of year, so you can save money by picking the least expensive and count on that being less crowded.

3. Finally, use google flights. Take advantage of their date grid/chart/calendar to hone in on the weeks that are the least expensive. Again, the more expensive the week, the busier you can expect Disneyland to be.

Disneyland is a great place to visit any time of year, but there are a few times when it's especially crowded. I hope this guide to when to go to Disneyland and what to expect during each season has been helpful.
